Acupuncture, originating as an ancient healing art in China, requires the skillful use of hair fine needles to help patients experience less pain and increased well being. It is, most simply, an ancient medical modality that licensed acupuncturist use in modern time. Acupuncture needles are inserted often shallowly, with minimal discomfort, both near areas of illness and pain and in other parts of the body where a patient may not be having symptoms.

Because the lineage and modern study of acupuncture recognizes that tissues such as muscles, tendons, nerves, and sheets of tissue called fascia, connect different parts of the body, needles distant from the pain can still be tremendously, if not definitively, therapeutic to any condition. In ancient times, Chinese medicine doctors did not use modern anatomical terms. Instead, they used terms such as qi, blood, yin, and yang to help describe elements in the body that they would treat through their medicine.

If you read about and research acupuncture (which we certainly hope you do!), understand that licensed acupuncturists, because they are trained in the nomenclature of both the ancient lineage and modern medicine, will use terminology representing old and new medical worlds. This training is, indeed, what makes Chinese medicine—including acupuncture—so powerful.

F E R T I L I T Y

The use of acupuncture to assist in fertility treatments and family planning may seem like a new idea, but these techniques have been studied and proven for generations. Acupuncture can assist in modern processes such as IVF and is also used independently to promote fertility health and increase reproduction success rates. For these purposes, acupuncture has been shown to reduce overall stress, reduce cortisol levels, show marked reduction in pain associated with IVF procedures like the retrieval and transfer. It increases uterine blood flow, promotes follicle production and healthy eggs, and research has shown a 26% increase in efficacy of IVF.

ACUPUNCTURE
MASSAGE THERAPY

Perhaps the most commonly known treatment that AMMA Wellness offers, massage therapy has its origins in folk medicines from around the world . Massage therapy involves manipulation of soft tissue, focusing on increasing blood and lymph flow as much as “working out knots” you might have in your shoulders. Commonly, you might experience sore muscles during a massage that you didn’t even know were sore! Everyday activities such as driving, using a mouse, or loading the dishwasher can create subtle (or not so subtle) tension in certain large and small muscles. Massage therapy, among other things, can restore healthy function to your body that can be compromised through your everyday activities. It is also effective for more major issues such as infertility, chronic back strain or sprain, and injury rehabilitation.

HERBAL CONSULTATION

Chinese herbology has been used for millennia as treatment for medical ailments, often used with acupuncture but sometimes on its own. These formulas are taken as tea but also come in the form of tinctures, capsules, or tablets. Materials in the Chinese pharmacopoeia derive mostly from plant material and are combined for specific therapeutic effect, often without side effects that you frequently experience with some pharmaceutical medicine. AMMA Licensed Acupuncturists can sit down with you for a full diagnostic intake and prescribe a custom formula based on your acute symptoms and underlying constitutional disharmonies.
